A larger scale version of the launcher I built to run lines over the tree tops for my HF dipole antennas.

Paul D, Some friends of mine made a potato gun out of PVC that probably did what your launcher does. I was always standing well clear of them, because they liked to use acetylene as fuel.

I've seen folks use certain brands of hairspray in their potato gun. Makes an impressive muzzle flash. Mine uses up to 80 lbs. of compressed air and will easily launch the pvc projectile and fishing line over the top of an 80' tree.

They are impressive no matter what the propellant is. Acetylene made a nice bang, but as I said, I kept my distance. I didn't want PVC shrapnel anywhere near me if the tube blew up.

In my younger, slightly dumber, years I used acetylene too. I was with a couple of freinds and using it straight out of the bottle. After a nice shot I thought to myself "why not mix in a little oxygen from the adjoining bottle?" I loaded it with both gasses and as I looked at the little hole that I was about to stick the match in I heard a voice in my head as clear as day say, "Probably shouldn't light that." So I lit the match, stuck it in the hole, and kaboom!! My friend said all he saw was a ball of fire swallow me. One piece went through the siding of the building, one hit me in the chin cutting the inside of my mouth on my braces, and one piece we found 50 yards away. My ears rang for about 10 minutes and I had several cuts in my face and chest. Ahh, good times.

My 9-y.o. sons friend: This is a nice jeep.
My son: It is NOT a jeep, it is a Land Rover. It is more capable than a jeep.

4 Tecate cans, duct tape, church key and ronsonol lighter fluid will send a flaming tennis ball quite a ways

Scott, I made one of those too! You had to really air it out after a shot or the next one wouldn't fire. I didn't get the ball to light on fire though, I should have tried harder.
