  • Car Show Siteing

We had a local car show on Memorial Day sponsored by our local HS rocketry team, our FRC Robotics team was also there doing outreach.

I had hoped to have my ride running but it didn't happen. , A '62 2a 88 SW.

There was a '59 Unimog as part of the 250 vehicles. I started talking to the owner and mentioned my vehicle. He stated he was offered one by a friend about 30 years ago. He stated he always kicked himself for not buying it. After a long conversation it turns out I was the one that bought the Rover from his friend. Small world kind of stuff.

I thought his Unimog was awesome.

That is the robot that our team built for competition this year. I am a mentor for a high school robotics team. Not a good picture.

OK thanks for that. I've seen on tv robotic competitions where the robots had to perform specific tasks, collect balls, lift an object over a certain height, etc. Does your robot perform specific tasks? Like oil changes on Series Land Rovers, wheel bearing maintenance on Land Rovers? Just curious what your team's robot is designed for.

Yes it is designed for specific game tasks. This year's tasks are pick up and deliver cones and cubes and to balance at the beginning of the game and at end game.

Sadly nothing Rover related. We work with HS students doing CAD, machining, Tig welding, programming, electrical, 3D printing and a bunch of other stuff.

Here is a link to one of our matches.

Very cool! That's exactly the type of competition I'd seen. That must be a blast to be involved with.

It is tons of fun and a lot of work. It is really cool to see a light bulb turn on when a kid figures out what is possible and makes it happen. I've been a mentor for 9 years. You meet some great people and see some really cool stuff.

My friend Mark coaches a high school robotics team in Concord, NH. It was really cool to hear that last year more than half the team was girls.
