I pulled the 2 spare diff's I have out of the garbage bags they were wrapped up in. The first one must have been the front, pretty clean outside and tight as a nun when I spun the drive flange on the pinion. WOOT!
The second one was the rear, baked on grease and oil/dirt mixture, when I spun the drive flange it was like a nun who'd been around before entering the nunnery. Not too bad only 3/16" of rotational movement before engaging. I'm calling them both good! WOOT! WOOT!
I cleaned up the rear and had to replace the fill plug, it looked like a pipe wrench was used to take it off and on. I hammered a 7/8 ratcheting wrench on it an needed a breaker bar to loosen it. At first I thought the copper washer was missing and then found it(so dirty!), I annealed it and put it back on with a spare plug.

Then I sprayed it with rust preventer.
