I have a 1970 IIA with the galvanized metal ring on the right fender for the air intake. I still have the metal ring but the mesh has long since rotted away. I could swap in the plastic intake grill, but would prefer to keep it looking more original. I am looking for advice on a screen that approximates the original. Any suggestions?

I think you're looking for galvanized steel hardware cloth like this:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt...12EB/205960834 You can usually find it at a hardware store. I've found it sold by the foot, so you don't have to buy a roll. They have it in various sizes from fine to very course. 1/4" is what you'd probably want.

Usually, on most trips up nawth (VT), I would use either a cardboard beer case bottom or later, the roll-up rad muff. This would keep the engine bay from filling up with snow. But on one below zero night, I parked the Rover with the passenger side to windward. The next morning, there was a considerable snowdrift in the passenger side footwell....Smaller than 1/4" would be better - sometimes.
