I'm around DC, and the local BMW club would hold membership rides to join the ironbutt association (minimum level of membership is 1000 miles in 24 hours.) They would leave early in the morning and have lunch in Atlanta and come back. I wouldn't try it in a Series Rover. (When I was less than half the age that I am now, I finished my 3 hour Statics final exam as I was studying to be an ME, went home, packed up one saddlebag full of clothes, the other full of tools, manuals and spares and aimed West (from Virginia). That was about 11am. The next afternoon, about 6pm, I was in Utah. After some time in that area, I took three days to get back. I went a bit slower, especially after the 104 in a 55 speeding ticket (Colorado desert roads can be so empty and boring).
