Air cooled drum brakes for my 109

Yes, title is a bit of a click bait but this notched drum idea help me diagnose the drum brake issue with my 109. On a later video that I’m editing will show the problem with my front brakes. Please help by subscribing as I’m learning new things to keep my fleet on the road on a budget.

I believe he is using this only for adjustment and visual before putting the good ones on. I like the "safety" shoes used while working with a grinder and a car on jack stands

watched the video, Interested to hear what the problem is. Brakes not bleeding, new parts that aren’t really round, or maybe the shoe not on the post properly. … and lately I’ve only worn my furry UGGs for garage work.

Cityside Garage did this when they tried to fix my 109s front brakes, mind you it didn't help them much because they were using Britpart cylinders and drums. They just adjusted everything all the way out.I ended up replacing all the parts with NOS brand name parts and doing the whole thing over again, but I can see why this would be useful for figuring out what everything is doing when you make adjustments.

I think it's a bold move trying to get 109 brakes to work properly. I'm definitely up for any front wheel cylinder bleeding innovations that may arise!

SeanG if you think a set of work boots will save your toes from a falling vehicle you must be delusional and you might as well do it in style. BTW those are my son’s toes (LOL) he did not do the grinding or was he near during the grinding nor were his toes under the safely supported vehicle on jack stands. SeanG I can assure that no kids were hurt during the making of this video. LOL. In fact he learned by the visual notch on old drum how brake shoes work in addition to figuring out the issue at hand fixing my front brakes.

Nice catch on that broken spring washer! I’ll have to put that on the list of things to check when I overhaul my brakes.
